Mechelen, 29 September 2020 – With its innovative storage solution Box Storage, Merak is responsible for storing the strategic stock of medical protection materials, including face masks, for the FPS Public Health, Food Chain Safety and the Environment. With more than 60,000 m² of air-conditioned and secure storage capacity, Merak has been chosen as a partner. By the end of December 2020, this Federal Public Service will already occupy about 35,000 m³ of space.
A new storage solution from Merak
Box Storage is a new storage solution from Merak.
Business material that is temporarily not needed is stored in container boxes.
Compared to traditional storage formulas, the advantage of Merak Box Storage is that the boxes are brought on site.
This enables companies to make the most of their own storage capacity.
With this concept, Merak provides an answer to the storage needs out there on the market.
Companies do not want to allow their precious active space to be absorbed by temporary stock or (seasonal) materials that are only needed a few times a year.
With Box Storage, a company can store its excess materials in container boxes of 1, 5, 6, 16 or 24 m².
Merak brings the container boxes to the customer.
It loads the boxes itself with the materials it wants to put away for a while.
Then Merak picks up the fully loaded boxes and puts them in one of its storage rooms.
What happens if the company needs the material?
In that case, it can easily have the box returned to a location of its choice.
Climate-controlled and secure
Since 1986, Merak has been protecting and storing business data and assets of government departments, SMEs, companies and organisations. All stored media, from paper documents and materials to optical media and laboratory samples, are kept in specialised storage sites owned by the Merak Group. Fully green-powered, these storage rooms are climate-controlled and protected against fire, theft, water and vermin. This ensures that the customer is assured of high quality and environmentally-aware information and goods security.

All storage processes are traceable through a track-and-trace system and are continuously monitored and documented.
Most actions are done according to established guidelines:
ISO 9001 for quality management (since 1994)
ISO/IEC 27001 for information security (since 2008)
ISO 14001 for environmental management (since 2011)
The collaboration between the FPS Public Health and Merak
Merak is the market leader in archiving and already manages some 720 running kilometres of archives in its own storage sites. Together with the FPS Public Health, which has acted as a central purchasing body within the Strategic Federal Purchase Consultation, Merak has already started an archiving project and a digitisation project. This cooperation resulted in a significant improvement in expenditure management. In addition, staff deployment and document transfer between different divisions of the same department are now faster and more efficient. For this new project too, the FPS Public Health and Merak are together aiming for effective cooperation according to the highest quality standards. This ensures the safe storage of the strategic stock of medical protection material for our country.
